PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times late to take a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
